Have you started a blog for your business, but are stressing over what to write about? You know you have something to say, but the creative juices just ain’t flowing?

Don’t worry!

When you start blog writing for your business, it might seem like a really simple thing to do. Many businesses then find it’s difficult to keep thinking of new ideas and the blog starts to get neglected. But content writing doesn’t just have to be lengthy articles.

Sometimes, blog content can be as simple as a helpful infographic, or a valuable checklist, or even an interview.

Once you know all the different types of content you can create for your blog, you’ll soon find blog writing a total breeze. In this article, we’re going to break down our favourite types of content to help make your brand stand out and your content creation a breeze.

What types of blog content are there to choose from?

You know that having a blog is important to make your company and your website stand out – both among competitors and in the search engines.

But writing the same kind of content over and over again can become boring – and if it’s boring for you to write, then you can guarantee it’s boring for your audience to read!

Different types of content have their own individual values, focuses, and purposes. Here are 11 content ideas so you never run out of blog posts again and you can kiss writer’s block goodbye for good.

1. Lists

We love list-style blog posts, also known as listicles. Mainly for two reasons.

First, they are skimmable and easy to read.

And second, they streamline useful information for your audience, making it easy for them to share and take action. They basically give the best information in the shortest amount of time. What’s not to love?

2. Checklists

Following on from lists comes the next content idea: the checklist!

Checklists are simple blog content ideas that still provide value for your audience. If you’ve ever written a shopping list or a checklist for what to take on holiday, then you can write a checklist for your blog. Just choose a subject that is relevant to your industry and break it down into short, actionable sections.

If you run an events business, create a checklist for everything you need to get started in the industry. Own a vet clinic? Create a checklist for what people need to know about keeping their dog’s health in check.

The possibilities are endless.

3. How to…

How to guides are like tutorials and are a brilliant way to educate and engage your audience. And because you’re writing about a subject you know a lot about, they are fairly easy to write.

When writing a how to blog post, make sure you break everything down into small steps. Use your H tags and include images to make the content as easy and useful as possible for your reader.

Always consider your ideal audience and what would be most helpful for them, then get started.

4. Cheat sheet

Similar to a checklist, a cheat sheet has the edge of sounding like an industry secret. How enticing does this sound: “Snag the cheat sheet to getting more leads for your freelancing biz.”

A cheat sheet is a useful reference guide for anything in your industry. You can create it as a downloadable PDF, a list, or even a video.

And if you offer it as a downloadable, you get the added benefit of getting your reader’s email address, so you can build up your subscriber list at the same time. Bonus!

5. Case studies

There’s no denying it, stories are powerful.

And writing a case study is a brilliant way to create impactful content for your blog. Not only do they generate social proof, but they’re pretty easy to write. Writing a case study about someone who has used your services and products, and showing how it’s benefited their lives, can go a long way to convince other potential clients to work with you.

People love a success story.

6. Infographics

This might sound like a scary word, but believe us, you don’t need to be a graphic designer to create a great infographic.

It can be an image you put together yourself using a free tool like Canva containing useful information about your industry, statistics, instructions, or even fun facts.

Infographics are easy to read and share, making them a powerful type of blog content without the need for loads of blog writing to accompany it.

7. Industry news

Scrolling through your newsfeed is something most people do in the morning.

So, why not be the middle man?

If you want to catch your audience’s attention, consider creating an industry news round-up. You can do this weekly or even monthly. Just scour Google and jot down any interesting news items in your niche. Then create a blog post including the items, along with your own commentary on the subject.

You can use this as a social media post too, getting more bang for your buck.

8. Interviews

Whether it’s a customer, a member of staff, an important person in your industry, or even yourself, an interview provides valuable insight into your business and your area of expertise.

Don’t just talk about yourself and how great your company is though. Use the interview as a way to talk about things your ideal audience wants to know.

As well as using an interview as content writing for your blog, turn it into a video and share it on social media or your YouTube channel. The more you can repurpose content, the better!

9. Behind the scenes

Let’s face it, people are nosy!

We can’t help it. It’s in our nature to want to know what’s happening behind the curtain.

So, why not create a series of blog posts that takes your audience behind the scenes? You can create a video as well as written content to go alongside it. Show your audience the ins and outs of your business, take them through your typical day, show them things they would never normally see, introduce them to your staff. There is so much choice, and it makes great content.

10. Answer FAQs

Use your blog as a way to address any concerns, queries, and objections your customers might have by answering some FAQs.

You can ask your audience to submit questions via social media or email if you have an email list. Or you can just find frequently asked questions online. Use keyword research and reviews on platforms like Google and Amazon. This will give you some good ideas about the kind of questions your ideal customer has.

11. Guest posts

If you haven’t taken advantage of guest posts already, then now is the time.

And the best part, you don’t even have to write this kind of blog post yourself. It’s ready-made content written by someone you’re happy to have on your blog. Just make sure that you have strict guidelines for the type of content you’ll accept, and always read and make any necessary edits before publishing.

Create blog content that creates conversation and conversions

No matter what kind of blog content you choose to create, it always has to focus on the same things: to be useful, valuable, and educational for your ideal customer.

Whether it’s a fascinating case study or a fun listicle, blog writing has to serve a purpose. And by serving your dream clients with what they need, they’ll be more inclined to trust you, follow you, and want to work with you.

But if your blog writing and content writing could do with a little (or a lot) of help and guidance, then get in touch. We’ll help you create a winning content plan that will make your business stand out and get noticed.
